It is clear that Numen/For Use never gave up on their childhood love of forts and tree houses. Luckily for us, they have turned that passion into a practice. After bringing us the inhabitable tape-hammock and the enchanting net, they've finally debuted their latest installation: The String Prototype. Part blowup castle, part giant spider web, this is the jungle gym as we’ve never seen it before. All images by Numen/For Use via Wired. From the exterior, the 32x20x20 foot inflatable cube really looks like nothing special. However, the dimpled form hides the true treat on the inside: a mysterious field of ropes. Holding the form of the cube taut, the linear elements are supported through the constant flow of air into the inflatable structure. The cube's muted, deceptive lighting helps transform the 3D grid of ropes into what appears to be an infinite jungle gym—the nirvana of playgrounds. That is, until Numen/For Use bring out their next installation. [via wired]
