Even cats get custom built homes in Los Angeles. Last week, Architects for Animals organized "Giving Shelter," a one night only group show of custom cat houses in a LA Herman Miller Showroom. The show displayed designs by 14 architecture firms, including HOK, Perkins + Will, and DSH // Architecture, and visitors' entry fees helped to raise funds for FixNation, a L.A. non-profit that reduces the population of stray cats in the city through spay and neuter methods. At the exhibition, shelter styles ranged from fantastic to modern as the firms created whimsical cat playplaces, some of which could also function for catnaps. The multi-story pod-like residence (above) by New York-based firm HOK won the votes for "Fan Favorite."
