"Futurama," like its cousin "The Simpsons," has an exciting intro. But could it be upgraded from a cartoonish style to a photo-realistic, 3D animated version? Artist Alexy Sakharov thinks so, and here are some of the details of how he created his new and improved intro to "Futurama." The new intro shows minute detail reproduced form the original, including the Planet Express ship that is followed in the TV intro. The "plots" are not the same, but the scenery is. We can see the advertising, the flying cars, and the buildings. In the new version, it is post-processed to create a fantastic environment with much more depth than the original. How did he do it? First, he probably watched that intro a thousand times. Then, he used a mixture of 3Ds Max, Nuke, Photoshop, and After Effects to model and animate even the smallest details and illustrate what "Futurama" would look like if it were a real place today.
